For ages, dragon eggs have been precious prize for dragonlords. The eggs of giant with scaled beauty used to look like titanic gemstones of unfathomable worth. But not just a costly supplement the dragon egg is more about a cycle of life and descendants of dragonlords.
Top 5 dragon egg facts
A dragon egg was supposedly gargantuan and extremely heavy, its shell of tiniest scales. They glittered like highly polished metal; colorations from the deepest greens and creams to blacks and scarlet were considered highly probable.
The appearance of the dragon which eventually hatches out from the egg will not infrequently, if not always, be an exact replica. Each egg was effectively a glimpse at the dragon yet to be born.
The meanings of dragon egg colors
All the different dragons eggs can be very much varied in color. The most prominent of the famous eggs are three which have been given to Daenerys Targaryen.
The Black Dragon Egg
The egg is described as being of the blackest black of sea under stars, with brilliant scarlet ripples of color streaming throughout its expanse.
The egg hatched into Drogon, whose black, scarlet body seemed to mirror its egg in such a way, that it's appearance, even with its stark differences to any other dragon egg could easily become a point of fascination.
The combination of black and scarlet hints at power, violence, and fire to the viewer.
The Green Dragon Egg
Another famous dragon egg was the color green which was dappled with bronze, which shimmered when the light reflected at the egg as it rolled or was handled.
This particular egg hatched into Rhaegal, who's pale jade-green body was highlighted with bronze scales; an uncanny likeness to its parent egg.
Green and bronze may suggest earth, wealth, and a certain primordial quality.
The Cream and Gold Dragon Egg
The final and often most visually distinct was a dragon egg of very pale cream with streaks of brilliant bronze and gold weaving through its surface, like light reflecting off silk.
This was the dragon egg which hatched Viserion; his scales were cream colored and flecked with the burnished bronzes seen on the egg itself.
With more subtle colors, this egg differs remarkably from the dark black and scarlet egg, and shows the diversity of dragon eggs.
Family and tradition, with eggs
Dragon eggs were not necessarily valued on their surface color or beauty, or even potential magic – as an egg they had a tradition associated with them amongst all those dragonlords.
A tradition deeply treasured by the Targaryen royal house was upheld by Viserys I. An egg was laid in the cradle of a male or female prince or princess, and when the egg eventually hatched the royal child carried the blood of the dragons within him or her.
The secret of the non hatching eggs
Although some of the aforementioned dragons eggs all hatched, not all dragon eggs do. Eggs which do not hatch either remained eternally dormant or are thought to have turned into stone!
This unanswered question surrounding their magic is the most enticing and mysterious fact associated with dragons eggs. Magic, heat, lineage and ancient lore all appear to contribute to giving birth to a dragon once again.
What the colors of the eggs can mean
With such varying colors in the dragon eggs, all these colors don't really make themselves known to us. Although egg color and dragon appearance are likely to be aligned, the meaning of every dragon egg color cannot be known to us currently.
However, this lack of explanation is exactly why dragon eggs are seen as such mysterious and fantastical objects.
The continuation and meaning behind dragon eggs
Long after the end of the dragons and the age of dragonlords had faded into legend, dragon eggs were still passed on to be a treasured symbol of the time that had long passed away from the eyes of mortal men. Their survival into a world that didn't believed them or have any dragons anymore, means that these precious tokens of beauty can never be valued enough for what they really are. From black and scarlet, to cream and gold and green and bronze the list goes on and on and, these three color combinations of colors are enough to imagine a true dragon's lineage as depicted on such egg.
What will one of the best parts of this history always be is the story each egg tells along with the legend and mystique behind their colors. Their mysterious presence in the face of an unknown yet tantalizing possible past is truly a sight to behold and an adventure into a land that has no doubt existed to spark awe.
